Karim Benzema has admitted he might not have done enough to deserve a starting spot at Real Madrid in the past.
The 22-year-old joined the club in summer 2009 for a mammoth 35 million Euros but failed to win a regular place in the team.
A recent injury to fellow striker Gonzalo Higuain has created a vacancy for him which he has profited hugely by as he netted two hat-tricks last month.
"I know when I play well and when I do it badly and if at any moment I have played less, it is because I did not make enough of an effort to deserve it," he told sports daily AS.
"What is key for me is that I have recovered my speed, I can't guarantee that I will score three goals in every match, but I will do everything possible to score at least one."
Benzema has made 15 appearances for Real this season in La Liga but has started just four games.
