Sampdoria set to win battle for striker

Federico Macheda's agent has stated that the player is set to join Sampdoria. The Manchester United youngster is anxious for more first-team football and although Sir Alex Ferguson would rather he stayed put, he is ready to sanction a loan deal. A clutch of Premier League clubs including West Brom and Everton have been strongly linked, but it appears Macheda is heading back to his homeland. Sampdoria look set to win the race for his signature, according to his agent Giovanni Bia.

Formalities

"The only thing missing is the formalities," he told Sky Italia. "I hope to finish everything by tonight so the player will be available for Sunday." Bia confirmed the deal was due to last six months, adding: "That is the idea, then it will be evaluated with Manchester United and they will need to see if he stays in Italy for another year. "It is 99 per cent certain he would go straight back to Manchester United. "I think Alex Ferguson wants him back, because he considers Macheda a major European talent."
