Kenny Jackett is hoping to secure Jason Puncheon on a permanent deal following the winger's hat-trick in Millwall's 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Puncheon has proved to be a big hit since arriving at The Den on loan from Southampton and his treble against Palace took his tally to five goals in seven appearances.
His loan expires after Monday's game against Derby County, but manager Jackett is keen to hang on to the 24-year-old.
"His loan runs out on Monday," revealed Jackett.
"We're in contact with Southampton but there will be more contact made in the coming days. He scored a great hat-trick today so we're hoping to keep him."
While Palace, who sacked George Burley after the game, are fighting the drop, Millwall now find themselves up with the play-off pack and Jackett is aiming high.
"The play-offs were always a target," he added.
"We talked at the start of the year to get a foothold in the division, seeing if we could compete and I am pleased to see where we are but we have to keep working hard and keep our feet on the floor.
"At times we've looked competent and at others we've been lacking so there's a lot to do."
