George Burley admits Crystal Palace have been priced out of a bid for James Vaughan amid reports he could be on his way to Cardiff City.
Vaughan recently completed a three-month loan spell at Palace from Everton and scored five goals in 14 appearances.
Palace want to bring the 22-year-old back to Selhurst Park and have held talks with Everton regarding a January deal.
However, promotion contenders Cardiff are rumoured to have shown an interest and are ready to pay upwards of £1million for Vaughan.
Such a figure is beyond the Eagles' reach and manager Burley is waiting to see whether the forward does go to Cardiff.
"I spoke to David Moyes and we couldn't afford the price mentioned for James," Burley told the South London Press.
"The figure quoted was very high, but maybe Cardiff can afford him. But if not then we'll still keep an eye on things."
