Ashley Williams has praised the appointment of Gary Speed as the new Wales manager.

Swansea star looking forward to working under new man

Ashley Williams has praised the appointment of Gary Speed as the new Wales manager. Speed was appointed as John Toshack's successor earlier this week after leaving Sheffield United. The former Leeds and Everton star has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal to lead his country and Swansea defender Williams is looking forward to working under the ex-Wales captain. Williams, who captained Wales in their last two Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland, believes Speed is the right man to take the country forward. "I am happy with the appointment of Gary as the new Wales manager and I feel he is the right man for the job," Williams told skysports.com.

Legend

"Gary is a Wales legend having made 85 appearances for his country and he is the most capped outfield player for Wales. "Gary is also a Premier League legend with the clubs he has played for and the appearances he has made throughout his career. "I am looking forward to working under Gary and I am sure he will bring some fresh ideas and methods to the team. "I have spoken to a few lads in the Wales team about Gary's appointment and they are all buzzing about it. "We play the Republic of Ireland in the Nations Cup and I am sure all the lads will be keen to get Gary off to a winning start."
