Aston Villa have no plans to sell goalkeeper Brad Friedel in January, skysports.com understands.
The American shot-stopper is out of contract at the end of the season and, as such, he is free to talk to foreign clubs from 1st January.
The former Liverpool and Blackburn keeper was linked with a possible move away in the January transfer window.
However, Villa are understood to have made it clear to Friedel and his representatives that they will not be looking to sell.
Friedel remains first choice under Houllier, but it is thought both parties are keeping their options open as regards the summer.
Whilst Villa consider whether to offer him a new deal, Friedel himself is aware that there will be a plethora of options for him in England, Europe and back home in America.
