Skysports.com understands Derby are in talks with Shaun Barker over a new deal at Pride Park.
Barker has established himself as a key member of the Derby side since his arrival from Blackpool in the summer of 2009.
The classy central defender has made more than 50 appearances for the Rams and the club are keen to reward his progress with a contract extension.
Barker's current deal expires in 2012 and Derby are hoping to tie him down a long-term contract to ward off potential suitors.
The 28-year-old has been instrumental in Derby's success this season and they see him as an important part of their plans for the future.
