Stuart Holden is set to return to the Bolton line-up in time for a key Lancashire derby against Blackburn.
The USA international midfielder has been a strong performer for Wanderers this season, but found himself sidelined with a niggling thigh problem during the last two games.
Bolton manager Owen Coyle took the decision to rest the midfielder, who has now returned to training, in a bid to prevent a much longer spell on the sidelines.
"There had been a little reaction, and because of the size of the squad, we couldn't afford to have Stuart Holden missing for four or five weeks," Coyle told The Bolton News.
"I need all my players mentally tuned and knowing they are at their best. There was a little nagging doubt in his mind that his thigh wouldn't last the pace of the match.
"I wasn't prepared to take that chance and then lose him for what is always a busy period of games."
