Edwin van der Sar wants Manchester United to wrap up top spot in their UEFA Champions League group against Valencia on Tuesday night.
United are yet to concede a goal in Europe this season and need a point at home against Valencia to guarantee first place.
That would ensure the Red Devils will avoid the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the last 16, and Van der Sar stressed the importance of getting the job done.
"It is quite clear," said the veteran goalkeeper.
"We are through now but we want to get top spot in order to avoid any of the bigger teams in the earlier rounds.
"That is what we need to do against Valencia."
Clean sheet target
Another clean sheet at Old Trafford on Tuesday would ensure United become the first team to go through the group stage without conceding a goal.
Having also faced Rangers and Bursaspor in the group stage, Van der Sar is aware United will face tougher tasks in the future, but is satisfied with the clean sheets.
He added: "So far we have not played against the biggest teams in the Champions League. Maybe that has something to do with it.
"When you start playing a higher standard of opposition it is going to become more difficult."
