The Rangers boss is readying his troops for a meeting with Bursaspor on Tuesday, with the squad having jetted out to Turkey on Sunday.

Among those to have made the travelling party is Algerian centre-half Bougherra, who has been nursing a hamstring injury.

Smith insists the defender, who has not played since 13th November, will be ready for midweek action and he will have no qualms about throwing him back into the fold.

Training

He said: "He will play, he is fine. He has been able to get his training done and he is fit."

James Beattie is also pushing for a first start in two months following a niggling hip problem.

He could be utilised in Europe as Kenny Miller is in need of a rest and Northern Ireland international Kyle Lafferty is sidelined with a broken hand.

Smith added: "Beattie might play up front in place of Miller, it depends how we go, but that is something we will look at."
