Cardiff goalkeeper Tom Heaton faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a training ground injury.
It is feared the former Manchester United youngster could be ruled out of action until the New Year with the injury.
The Bluebirds number one is on crutches following an awkward fall in which he suffered ligament damage, although City are officially yet to confirm details of the injury or the extent of his absence.
Scotland international David Marshall is expected to replace Heaton between the sticks for Saturday's Championship visit of Preston, with the encounter currently getting the green light despite the wintery conditions sweeping Britain.
Marshall lost the No.1 jersey to Heaton in late September, with the summer signing from Manchester United starting the club's last 12 games.
