Sunderland manager Steve Bruce may offer rising star Jordan Henderson some time for rest and recuperation.
The midfielder has been at the centre of attention during November after making his first appearance for the senior England team earlier in the month.
Fabio Capello called up Henderson as a result of consistently creative and energetic performances for his club over the past 18 months.
But the 20-year-old's form has dipped in the wake of his disappointing performance in England's defeat to France and he was particularly poor in Saturday's Premier League loss at Wolves.
Bruce is therefore considering offering Henderson a period out of the spotlight, saying: "It's the first time for the kid. He's had a great 18 months but it may be time for a rest.
"He has been great but the whole thing with England and the rest of it might have caught up with him so we'll see how he is in the week."
