Rangers boss Walter Smith has rejected reports linking Aston Villa with a move for goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
Recent reports have claimed Villa are lining up a move for McGregor when the transfer window reopens in January.
McGregor has been linked with a move away from Ibrox for some time after catching the eye of a number of clubs with impressive displays for club and country.
The 28-year-old starred in the midweek UEFA Champions League defeat to Manchester United, but Smith insists they have had no contact with any club for the Scotland international.
"(Villa assistant boss) Gary McAllister came to the game [against Manchester United] and now it's 'Aston Villa are interested in Allan McGregor'," said Smith.
"It's a nice link. But we've not heard anything from any club.
"It's still a bit early in the year to be speculating about transfers in January."
