Ajax striker Luis Suarez has accepted the two-match ban imposed by his club for biting an opponent at the weekend.
The Uruguay international appeared to sink his teeth into PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal during their goalless draw at the Amsterdam ArenA on Saturday.
Ajax have taken it upon themselves to punish the player in an attempt to soften any blow that may come from the Dutch FA, who are yet to act.
The 23-year-old, captain of the Dutch giants, will now miss Eredivisie games against VVV-Venlo and NEC Nijmegen and admits sorrow for his actions.
"I accept my punishment," he said on Spanish radio. "I was wrong. My action does not do Ajax's image any good. As captain I have to set an example."
Suarez had previously claimed to have been provoked by Bakkal, but refused to add fuel to the fire in a bid to draw a close to the episode.
He added: "I would rather not talk about the behaviour of Bakkal but my action was worse."
