Aston Villa are set to be without midfielder Marc Albrighton for up to four weeks following an appendix operation.
The 21-year-old has put in impressive performances this term but fell ill ahead of Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Blackburn.
He was subsequently diagnosed with appendicitis and has now gone under the surgeon's knife.
A statement on the club's official website confirmed: "Marc Albrighton has undergone an operation to remove his appendix, which will rule him out of action for three to four weeks."
The academy product has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Villa Park, emerging as a regular in manager Gerard Houllier's first team.
His impressive performances were rewarded earlier this month when he penned a contract extension until 2014.
