Josh McQuoid has admitted to his surprise at being called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad.
The Bournemouth striker is in contention to make his bow for the first team this week when Northern Ireland meet Morocco in a friendly on Wednesday.
McQuoid has been in superb goalscoring form for the Cherries this season but did not anticipate that his displays would see him promoted from the Under 21 international side.
He told Sky Sports: "I was not expecting the call-up. I was supposed to be going away with the Under 21s.
"So it was a bit of a surprise when Nigel (Worthington) called me up. I never thought the call-up would happen so early."
The 20-year-old striker has joined up with the Northern Ireland squad off the back of successive hat-tricks for Bournemouth.
And McQuoid is eager to build on that momentum, concluding: "Hopefully my goalscoring form continues. I will try to keep playing well."
