Sunderland have been dealt a blow with the news that Darren Bent could face several weeks on the sidelines through injury.
The Black Cats striker picked up a hamstring problem during training on Friday and is due to have another scan to assess the extent of the injury later on Monday.
Bent, 26, missed his side's 2-0 win over Stoke at the Stadium of Light at the weekend and is not expected to feature when Sunderland travel to Tottenham on Tuesday night.
The former Spurs man could be out for an extended period if the results of the scan are not positive, which would be a major setback for the Wearsiders.
Bent has already hit six goals in 10 Premier League appearances this season and in his debut campaign for the club last term he scored 24 times in the top-flight.
Summer signing Asamoah Gyan will now have to take some of the goalscoring burden and continue his good form, having netted a brace against Stoke on Saturday.
Meanwhile, central defender John Mensah is also a major doubt for the game at Tottenham as a result of the shoulder injury he suffered at the weekend, although Titus Bramble is available after serving a one-match ban.
