Coventry City have confirmed Gary Deegan will not play again this season as the midfielder requires another ankle operation.
Deegan suffered a stress fracture to his ankle during pre-season training and was initially expected to be sidelined for up to four months.
However, the 23-year-old has met with a setback in his recovery and Sky Blues boss Aidy Boothroyd has scratched Deegan from his plans for the rest of the campaign.
Boothroyd told the Coventry Telegraph: "We have had a bit of bad news with Gary who, unfortunately, has been told he needs another operation on his ankle which is going to put him out for the rest of the season really.
"It is a big blow for him and for us because I was looking forward to having him back this year, so it is disappointing."
Deegan joined Coventry from Bohemians back in January and scored twice in 17 Championship appearances last season.
