Hamburg striker Ruud van Nistelrooy looks set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a torn adductor muscle.
The Dutch ace suffered the injury whilst training with the Bundesliga club and a scan revealed the full extent of the damage on Wednesday.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker has been in impressive form for Armin Veh's side this season scoring seven goals in nine games.
However, Van Nistelrooy, who was recently recalled to the Holland squad following a two-year international exile, now looks set to miss some crucial matches starting with Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund.
The 34-year-old also looks set to miss the games against Hannover on 21stNovember and Stuttgart six days later.
The news comes as major blow to Hamburg, who are currently lying in eighth spot with 15 points and Veh has already indicated that he is reluctant to bring in any reinforcements.
