Darren Fletcher felt his opening goal against Bursaspor proved decisive in helping Manchester United see off the Turkish club 3-0 in UEFA Champions League Group C.

The midfielder broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half before goals from Gabriel Obertan and Bebe sealed their away success.

United, who sit top of Group C on 10 points, are now on the brink of securing their place in the last 16.

"I think obviously the early (second-half) goal helped," Fletcher, who sustained an ankle injury on Tuesday, told Sky Sports.

"We felt we'd created the better chances and had good possession of the ball and if we could get the first goal we could control possession and it would open up for us, and we did that."

Next up is a trip to Fletcher's native Scotland where a draw against Rangers will be enough to progress to the next round.

The midfielder added: "We're in a great position now with two games to go. The quicker we qualify the better and we're looking to do that as soon as possible."
