Jerome Thomas insists he is taking nothing for granted with his career any more after injury almost cut it short.
Thomas began his career at Arsenal but later moved on to Charlton and Portsmouth.
It was at Portsmouth that he suffered a serious spine injury that kept him sidelined for most of his tenure at Fratton Park.
But now the 27-year-old is enjoying his football again and believes he is stronger for the experience.
"I think in life in general you have to learn from mistakes you make and use it as a learning curve to become a better person," Thomas told the Sunday Mirror.
"Being out for a season while at Portsmouth was a reality check. Since then I've tried to take every season as if it was my last.
"I know how fantastic it is to be able to play in the Premier League."
