Roberto Martinez was full of praise for his old team Swansea after Wigan beat them 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.
Mauro Boselli opened up the scoring six minutes into the second half before Ben Watson settled the contest in the final minute with a penalty after Charles N'Zogbia had been fouled.
Swansea as ever, played their usual brand of entertaining football but were unable to break down a stubborn Wigan rearguard.
"I think in any cup competition the important thing is to get through to the next round," Martinez told Sky Sports.
"But tonight I thought that we saw two really open-minded teams with a very clear idea on how to play the game and I think it was a very exciting game from start to finish.
"I think it had a little bit of everything, it was a really good cup game. I think that you can see that Swansea are going to have really good season in the Championship, and it's always good to get through to the next round."
