Burnley's David Edgar looks set to join a fellow Championship club in a temporary deal.
Manager Brian Laws has revealed that he wants to give his fringe players some more first-team action.
The news comes as a blow to the 23-year-old Canadian who is set to follow fellow midfielder Kevin McDonald out of Turf Moor.
Laws said: "We've got to consider everything. David's been part of the squad and the team, and we've been pleased with his progress particularly in the summer.
"We've been working on him, not just defensively but also in a midfield role. We want to diversify and look at other areas with him.
"But there are a number of players that need to get out on loan to get games.
"While we boast a very strong squad and a competitive squad, to keep that competitive edge they need to be playing."
