Craig Cathcart has had to pull out of the Northern Ireland squad ahead of Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier against Faroe Islands.
Nigel Worthington has confirmed that he will not travel to Toftir after failing to recover from a back injury.
Cathcart suffered a spasm in his back after Blackpool's 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League and was unable to play for his country against Italy on Friday.
Northern Ireland coped admirably in the 21-year-old's absence to secure a famous goalless draw, and Worthington will have faith that his defenders can perform well once more against the unfancied Faroes.
Cathcart, who moved to Blackpool from Manchester United this summer, will now focus on recovering at home with a view to being fit for his club's clash with Manchester City next Sunday.
Northern Ireland are unbeaten in two games in qualifying, having beaten Slovenia in Group C before holding the Azzurri.
