Crewe Alexandra caretaker manager Dario Gradi has revealed misfiring striker Calvin Zola has rejected a move to Southend.
The 25-year-old frontman has only scored one goal in six League Two appearances this season and has slipped down the pecking order.
Zola remained on the bench throughout the remarkable 5-5 draw with Chesterfield at the weekend and has missed out on the starting XI for the last four games.
However, the Congolese forward has snubbed a move to Southend despite Gradi not selecting him in the side.
"Calvin is not scoring any goals in training," Gradi said in The Sentinel.
"He could have gone to Southend if he'd wanted to, but he didn't want to go.
"There was no point in me putting him on (against Chesterfield) as he wasn't going to do anything the others weren't doing."
Crewe are currently 14th in the table and Gradi is taking the positives out of the high-scoring draw with the Spireites.
"I'm still upbeat if we can play like we did in the first half. We played some terrific stuff," he added.
"What was surprising was the ease with which we scored our goals.
"The players won't be happy with a point, but there is no point me ranting and raving.
"I told them at half-time they'd come in at the end either pleased at holding out or moaning about their stupid mistakes and stupid fouls and free-kicks they gave away."
