The 23-year-old midfielder is the only uncapped player in Laurent Blanc's squad for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Romania and Luxembourg on October 9th and 12th.

Payet has made an impressive start to the new season, scoring seven goals in seven matches to help St Etienne to the top of Ligue 1 for the first time since 1982.

And the former Nantes man thanked coach Christophe Galtier and his players for helping him gain international recognition.

"I am happy, even if I've found it difficulty to take in so far," Payet told L'Equipe.

Impressive start

"I have been noticed because of our good start to the season with the club so if I can make it into the French team it will also be thanks to my team-mates and the coach.

"An international call-up is a new step, a difficult step, and I will have to take on such status.

"The aim is to adapt the best I can and I have a lot to learn."
