Keeper wins backing from boss

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is confident Steve Harper will suffer no ill-effects after his injury lay-off. Harper has been ruled out for three months after suffering a shoulder injury in the win at Everton earlier this month. Tim Krul is currently deputising for Harper, but Hughton expects the 35-year-old be ready to step back into the firing line once he recovers from his injury. "Particularly with goalkeepers, I don't think the age aspect comes into it," noted Hughton. "What you perhaps lose a little bit in age, you gain in experience, as Steve showed last season when he was outstanding. "We would expect Steve to come back firing and looking to get straight back into that spot."
