Dutch club looking to retain Everton target

Eredivisie giants PSV are hoping to tie midfielder Ibrahim Afellay down on a new deal. The 24-year-old will soon be out of contract at the Eindhoven club, and is reportedly being tracked by Everton and Atletico Madrid. Atletico representatives watched the Dutch international in action in PSV's 1-1 league draw against FC Groningen on Saturday. But Afellay, who has also been linked with Arsenal, insists he is entirely focused on his current club. "It's far too early to think about something else," Afellay told Dutch football magazine Voetbal International. "Currently I am fully focused on PSV." PSV have stated they intend to discuss Afellay's future with the player in hopes of agreeing a new contract.

Extension

Meanwhile, the club are also looking to extend the deal of Mexican defender Francisco Rodriquez, nicknamed Maza, whose current contract is set to expire but has the option to remain at the Philips Stadion until 2013. "We are very positive about Maza and won't wait till March 31 to give him clarity," said a spokesperson for the club. "You look in this case not only to the player but also to the full squad and in this example to the defence. We are currently looking at it."
