Roma defender Philippe Mexes has been banned for three matches for his reaction to being sent off against Brescia.
Mexes had already been yellow carded for a tackle on Brescia forward Eder in the 14th minute, and was sent off for a second booking on the Brazilian just after the hour mark.
The French defender remonstrated with officials upon leaving the field, with television replays showing he made little contact with Eder for his second booking.
The match referee, Carmine Russo, was then widely criticised after Wednesday's match.
As well as being suspended, Mexes has been fined €10,000 (£8,400) for his actions while club officials Daniele Prade and Paolo Montali have been punished for entering the referee's dressing room without consent.
At the disciplinary commission meeting which ruled on Mexes' ban, the president of the Italian referees association (AIA), Marcello Nicchi, said Russo would "probably have a break".
