Cumbrians ready to offer forward a new deal

Carlisle are planning to offer in-demand forward Francois Zoko a new deal to ward off interest from rival clubs. Reports have suggested Wigan, Burnley, Preston and Swansea City are all keeping tabs on the Ivory Coast ace following his impressive start to the season. Zoko has been a massive success at Brunton Park since his arrival this summer on a one-year deal and Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott is keen to tie down the 27-year-olf to a new long-term contract. "I know how big an impact he has made here," said Abbott. "We need to do something and it is something I've made everyone else at the club aware of. "He is an important player for what we are doing and has been very impressive so far." Meanwhile, Carlisle have handed a trial to Ilkeston striker Amari Morgan-Smith. The 21-year-old, who is available on a free transfer featured for Carlisle's reserves on Tuesday scoring in the 5-3 win over Stockport. The former Stockport man has impressed Abbott and he has invited him back to the club next week so that he can have another look at him. "Amari has done well and he has enjoyed himself, so we'll bring him back in on Monday next week for another look," added Abbott.
