Pablo Zabaleta believes Carlos Tevez is an ideal captain for Manchester City because he inspires others to try and follow his example.
Tevez was handed the armband by manager Roberto Mancini over the summer and has so far helped his team make a solid start to the season.
The Argentine striker found some of his best form on Sunday with a goal and assist in City's 2-0 victory away to Wigan.
And compatriot Zabaleta feels Tevez is a great role model for his team-mates, telling the Manchester Evening News: "When you see Carlos play like that, it makes you want to do the same.
"He is so important to us, and is a great captain."
Prior to Saturday's clash at the DW Stadium, Tevez had not begun the new campaign in the same sort of goalscoring form as last season.
But Zabaleta insists Tevez was still contributing due to his fantastic work rate, while the goal against Wigan will now boost his confidence.
"He works so hard all the time," said the defender. "He got many chances to score and got just one yesterday, but we are happy with that.
"It was a fantastic goal. I am so happy with him because he hasn't been scoring and a striker needs goals to be positive.
"But he is always looking to score. He keeps 100 per cent for every game and has a great character and attitude for every game, as well as his quality."
