Iker Casillas is certain that Jose Mourinho is focused on Real Madrid amid speculation of the Portugal job.

Search for new Portugal boss 'still wide open' amid Mourinho reports

Iker Casillas is certain that manager Jose Mourinho is focused on Real Madrid amid speculation that he could take over as Portugal boss on a temporary basis. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) is looking for a long-term successor to the sacked Carlos Queiroz, but it has been reported that Mourinho is wanted on a temporary basis. Rumours suggest that Mourinho is a No.1 target for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Denmark on 8th October and Iceland four days later. But Real captain Casillas thinks that his club manager would not be able to cope with the gruelling schedule of adding international commitments to his list of tasks. Casillas said: "I think it would give him too much.

Desperate

"I am sure he would like to coach Portugal, but his head only thinks of Madrid. "I don't think he will go. I have talked to him and his mind is set on Madrid." Reports in Portugal on Thursday claimed FPF president Gilberto Madail had travelled to Madrid to meet with Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendes, in an attempt to broker a deal. But Madail, who is desperate to salvage Portugal's qualifying campaign after collecting only one point from their opening two matches, insists the search "is still wide open." "Various things are being considered and that doesn't mean Jose Mourinho is the only one," Madail said, adding that he had not talked to Real.
