Sky Sports sources understands Dundee United have rejected a last-ditch bid from Middlesbrough for Craig Conway.
Boro have been chasing the midfielder's signature throughout the summer, with the Terrors having already turned down an offer from the Riverside outfit last week.
And 25-year-old Conway appears increasingly likely to remain at Tannadice after the SPL club reportedly spurned another advance for his services from the Championship side on transfer deadline day.
The rejection will strike a severe blow to Boro manager Gordon Strachan, who had been looking to further bolster his squad before the window slams shut on Tuesday.
Conway, who arrived at United from Ayr four years ago, has established himself as a regular first-team fixture, scoring a brace during last season's Scottish Cup final victory over Ross County.
