Stoke chairman Peter Coates has confirmed they are hoping to sign former Chelsea and Tottenham forward Eidur Gudjohnsen.
As revealed by skysports.com over the weekend, Stoke are in talks with Monaco about a season-long loan deal for Gudjohnsen.
Gudjohnsen is keen on a move away from Monaco after falling down the pecking order at Stade Louis II.
The 31-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Tottenham and scored in their 2-1 win at Stoke last season.
A permanent move to Spurs failed to materialise, but Stoke are now ready to offer the Iceland international a return to the Premier League.
"We have inquired about him," Coates told The Sentinel.
"We have talked about getting him on a 12-month loan because we think he could be a good player for 12 months, and maybe after that.
"But whether it happens or not, or how far we will get, we just don't know yet."
