Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has revealed that captain Stephen Carr has been playing through the pain barrier.
The 33-year-old right-back has featured in both of the Blues' Premier League matches this term despite suffering from a broken toe.
Carr sustained the problem in training prior to the new season but will again play this weekend at Bolton.
McLeish said: "Stephen has been playing with a broken toe and been having injections to help him get through the games so far.
"I can tell you that is not nice but it also shows the type of character that he is.
"The good thing is he will get a decent rest after the game because of the two-week international break and that should benefit him."
