Senegal midfielder provides welcome lift to Riverside midfield

Midfielder Mickael Tavares has joined Middlesbrough from Hamburg on a season-long loan deal. The Bundesliga outfit confirmed on Friday the midfielder has joined the Riverside club on loan, providing a welcome boost to manager Gordon Strachan's options. The Senegal international, capped three times for his country, had trained with Hamburg's reserves this campaign following the arrival of new coach Armin Veh. Tavares arrived at Hamburg from Slavia Prague last year but struggled to break into the first-team. The 27-year-old, who spent time on loan at Hamburg's German rivals Nurnberg last term, will bring welcome relief to the Riverside for injured midfielders Gary O'Neil, Kevin Thomson and Willo Flood. Tavares could go straight into the squad that travel to Barnsley on Saturday as Boro continue their Championship campaign.
