Dundee United have confirmed an offer from Middlesbrough for winger Craig Conway has been rejected.
Boro have been chasing the 25-year-old throughout the summer and initially held talks over a possible deal last month.
United manager Peter Houston revealed on Sunday that Boro had stepped up their interest by emailing their intention to make a bid for Conway.
The offer has now been received at Tannadice, but the SPL club have turned down the bid from their Championship counterparts.
A club statement read: "Dundee United confirms that a formal bid from Middlesbrough for Craig Conway was received late this afternoon, but did not meet the club's valuation."
Conway joined the Terrors from Ayr United four years ago and scored a brace in last season's Scottish Cup final success over Ross County.
