Newcastle United have confirmed they have agreed a deal with FC Twente for Ivory Coast international Cheick Tiote.
The 24-year-old had been wanted by rivals West Brom, who tabled a £3million offer for his services earlier this week.
However, Newcastle are set to secure his signature after he agreed terms and successfully passed a medical on Tyneside.
The move is now subject to The Magpies being granted a work permit for the African star.
Tiote began his professional career with Belgian side Anderlecht, had a loan spell with Roda, before moving to Twente in 2008.
He will become the club's fourth signing this summer following the arrivals of Sol Campbell, James Perch and Dan Gosling.
