Liverpool new boy Joe Cole believes his team-mates are ready for the challenge ahead as the Reds prepare to take on big-spending Manchester City on Monday.
The England midfielder has been ruled out of the intriguing clash as he begins a three-match domestic ban for his dismissal in last Sunday's draw against Arsenal.
But the 28-year-old believes the Reds will still have enough class to cope at Eastlands as Roy Hodgson's squad get fitter and fitter.
He said: "I'll be cheering the lads on and I think we'll do a good job. We are ready, we are getting stronger.
"It's been a disjointed pre-season but we are getting fitter and fitter. The players are looking better every day.
"We are going there full of confidence after holding Arsenal to a draw."
What will the outcome be?
