Tigers boss confident striker can make an impact

Nigel Pearson is optimistic Jay Simpson will prove to be a good signing for Hull City after winning the chase for the striker. Simpson signed a three-year contract at the KC Stadium on Thursday evening to join the Tigers from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old attracted interest from rival Championship clubs, with the likes of Bristol City and Leeds United reported to be keen on a deal. However, he has plumped for a move to Hull and will go straight into Pearson's squad for Saturday's game at home to Watford.

Pace

"He's a player that gives us pace and the ability to score goals," Pearson told the Hull Daily Mail. "He's at the stage of his career now where he wants to be playing regular football. "He's been at Arsenal for a number of years and been on loan at several clubs, but now it's a chance to prove himself. I'm very hopeful he'll be a good signing for us. "We've been able to beat off a couple of clubs who have been vying for his signature and hopefully he'll be able to get some good experience with us. "In addition to Robert Koren and John Bostock, it gives us the possibility of more goals. Most people would agree it's an area we've needed to look at."
