Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon has signed with Middlesbrough on a season-long loan deal, the Championship club has confirmed.
The 26-year-old, who arrived at the Stadium of Light from Sheffield United in January this year, will go straight into the Boro squad for Sunday's clash against the Blades at The Riverside.
York-born Kilgallon, who made just seven appearances for Sunderland last season, began his career with Leeds United before moving to Bramall Lane for a fee rising to £2million.
Boro manager Gordon Strachan revealed he tried to sign Kilgallon earlier this year but the stopper instead chose to link up with the Black Cats in the hope of playing Premier League football.
"Matt can play left-back as well as centre-back," Strachan told Boro's official website. "He gives us height as well as experience.
"There's a hunger there. I've explained to him that we're probably looking at a certain position to start with and we'll see how it goes from there."
