David Stockdale hopes his performance against Bolton in Fulham's Premier League opener will have done enough to see him keep his place.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper was handed a start by Mark Hughes at the Reebok Stadium after want-away No.1 Mark Schwarzer picked up an injury in training.

And Stockdale defied only finding out he was playing just before kick-off by putting in a stellar performance, making several top-drawer saves as the Cottagers held on for a goalless draw.

That performance will have given Hughes something to think about ahead of Manchester United's visit to Craven Cottage next weekend and Stockdale hopes to get the nod again.

"We've had a really good week of training so I was prepared," he told club's official website.

"Now I have to go away and build on this performance so the hard work starts again on Monday, but hopefully I have given the manager something to think about.

"I want to be involved again, but I've always had that desire.

"It's the manager's decision whether I start next week, so we'll have to wait and see."
