Pompey bring in defensive cover

Portsmouth have added to their threadbare squad by bringing in Stoke defender Carl Dickinson on loan. Dickinson, 23, will link up with Pompey boss Steve Cotterill for a season-long spell as the club set about assembling a strong enough squad to compete in the Championship. The left-back becomes the second player to switch the Britannia Stadium for Fratton Park for the season following Ibrahima Sonko's arrival last month. The former Derby man joined the Potters in 2002 and made 60 appearances in the red and white shirt. He was shipped out on-loan to Barnsley last season but Cotterill is delighted to have top flight pedigree in his ranks. The South Coast boss told the club's official website: "Carl's a player I've tracked for a little while and I'm delighted we've been able to bring him to Pompey. "He's a good young player with Premier League experience and he played a lot of Championship games when Stoke won promotion in 2008. "It might take him a few games to get going but he's a good lad and I can see him becoming a fans' favourite here."
