Hull are closing in on the signature of Slovenia captain Robert Koren, according to the player's agent.
Koren is without a club following his release from West Brom in the close season and has reportedly attracted the interest of a number of Championship sides.
As first reported by Skysports.com, Hull appear to have emerged as favourites to capture the 29-year-old and a deal for the World Cup star could be completed by the weekend.
The arrival of Koren would boost manager Nigel Pearson's threadbare squad and give the Tigers more options in midfield.
The 29-year-old's representative, Zoran Krneta, told the Hull Daily Mail: "We have been talking with Hull City and many other clubs in England.
"A lot of teams in the Championship have expressed an interest this summer and Hull City are one of those teams.
"We are close to a decision and we are looking to finalise by the weekend. Hopefully we will know more by Friday."
