Bacary Sagna believes it would be a good move for Arsenal to bring in defender Emir Spahic.
The Gunners have been linked with a swoop for the Montpellier player, who has been quoted as saying he would be interested in such a switch.
Montpellier have played down the transfer speculation, insisting last week there had been no contact with Arsenal.
Sagna is aware of the reports and, having kept a close eye on Spahic last season, hopes a deal can be agreed.
Arsene Wenger has already signed Laurent Koscielny from Lorient this summer, while Johan Djourou is fit again following a lengthy injury lay-off.
However, experienced trio Sol Campbell, William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre have all left Emirates Stadium and Wenger has indicated he would like to add another centre-back to his ranks.
Speaking about Spahic, Sagna told Le Foot Hebdo: "I have followed him a lot last season in Le Championnat de France. He is a really good player.
"He is gifted enough to join a club like Arsenal. If he does join the club, he would be welcomed."
