Skysports.com understands Stephen Jordan is poised to join Sheffield United after shunning a move to Portsmouth.
Jordan, who is a free agent after leaving Burnley at the end of last season, had been expected to join Portsmouth after impressing while training with them this pre-season.
However, United have moved in to steal the former Manchester City defender from under the noses of Portsmouth.
Blades boss Kevin Blackwell has been searching for a new left-back all summer and he has now plumped for Jordan.
Jordan could be involved in this weekend's Championship opener at Cardiff, live on Sky Sports 1, if he finalises his move to Bramall Lane in time.
