Montpellier have played down speculation linking Emir Spahic with a move to Arsenal.
The Bosnia international was quoted as saying earlier this week that the two clubs were in negotiations over a deal to take him to Emirates Stadium.
He praised Arsene Wenger and expressed excitement at the possibility of playing in the Premier League.
However, Montpellier insist there has been no contact and they are sure the Gunners would not be conducting any business in secret.
Manager Rene Girard phoned Wenger after hearing the reports and was reassured by the conversation.
"I can tell you one thing. Spahic is a Montpellier player," Girard told L'Equipe.
"Wenger has a clear and honest way of working. If he wanted me to take his position at Arsenal tomorrow, he will call me first to tell me."
Chairman Laurent Nicollin added: "To date we have had absolutely no contact with Arsenal or anyone else.
"I believe Arsenal is a great club which first talks with the people involved before starting anything."
Spahic's agent Dino Pasalic backed up the club by dismissing the link with Arsenal.
"We have had no contact with Arsenal to date," said Pasalic.
