Skysports.com understands Portsmouth's John Utaka is Blackburn's mystery transfer target.
Blackburn chairman John Williams revealed that the club had made an increased offer for an unnamed striker as they look to bolster their attacking options and it is understood Utaka is the player in question.
Portsmouth are willing to sell the Nigerian international as they look to cut their costs following their relegation from the Premier League.
The likes of Bolton, Sunderland and Fulham have been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, but it appears Rovers are leading the chase for Utaka's signature.
A number of foreign sides are also believed to be keen on signing Utaka, but the player is understood to be keen to stay in England and Rovers could offer him that opportunity.
