Director of sport wants to avoid free transfer scenario

Stuttgart's new director of sport Fredi Bobic remains hopeful that Sami Khedira will agree a new deal with the club. Khedira has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga side, with Real Madrid reported suitors. The Germany international's contract is due to expire in a year, meaning he will be allowed to leave Stuttgart on a free transfer. "That would not be good for a business like Stuttgart," admitted Bobic. "We would like to extend Sami Khedira's contract, but it is up to him. We will hold talks in the coming days." Should Khedira depart the club, Bobic has suggested the income would be invested in new players, but not on a like-for-like replacement. "We don't need that - we have three players in our squad who can play in his position," explained Bobic. "Certainly there will be some more players arriving."
