Port Vale have signed former Crewe Alexandra midfielder Gary Roberts on a six-month contract.
Roberts has been training with Vale during pre-season after being released by League Two rivals Rotherham United towards the end of the last campaign.
The 23-year-old has encountered problems at some of his previous clubs, but Vale boss Micky Adams is happy to give Roberts a chance.
"We have agreed to a six-month contract and I am delighted to get him," Adams told the club's official website.
"His attitude in pre-season has been spot on and he has a delightful range of passes. He will be a good addition to the squad."
